An Urban Institute study released on Tuesday found that over a quarter of Americans occasionally don’t receive enough to eat because of rising food prices brought on by President Joe Biden’s administration.

In 2021, when Biden took office, 20% of Americans occasionally lacked access to enough food. At the end of 2022, that percentage rocketed to 24.6%, a 23% rise in just one year.

According to the study, 63.2 percent of individuals said their household grocery prices rose “a lot” the previous year. Black and Hispanic adults were those who were most affected by Biden’s presidency.

Those whose food prices increased “a lot” were almost twice as likely as other adults to occasionally struggle for food (29.0 percent -16.5 percent).

According to Biden, inflation is declining. Notwithstanding his assertions, grocery store aisles have not brought any respite to American households. Prices have increased significantly in the last year for eggs (by 70.1%), dairy (by 14.0%), cereals (15.6%), and cookies (by 16.3%).  From December 2021 to December 2022, the overall increase in food prices was 10.4%, a 40-year high.

Biden’s price increases had a particularly large influence on food costs. Next to rising food prices, 55.5 percent of Americans were hurt by rising gas prices, followed by 26.4 percent by heating costs, 26.2 percent by childcare costs, 12.5 percent by health insurance, and 8.1 percent by mortgage payments.

According to the study, “recent price increases resulted in 62.0 percent of adults reporting either decreasing the amount of food they bought or not purchasing the types of foods they wanted, 43.3 percent taking money out of savings, and 36.3 percent increasing credit card debt due to the cost of groceries. Around 16.5 percent received food from charities.”

In December 2021, 8,142 participants ages 18 to 64 were included in the study; in December 2022, 7,881 adults took part.

The findings of the study came as a February Sunday ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 41% of American families believe their financial situation has become worse since Biden took office, which is the worst finding in 37 years. Only 16 percent of people claimed that Biden had improved their financial situation.
