Elon Musk recently revealed that the “For You” feed on Twitter will soon only recommend verified profiles and those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue. Additionally, users who pay Elon for verification won’t have access to the platform’s famous polling function.
According to The Verge, Twitter CEO Elon Musk declared on Monday evening that as of April 15, only users with verified accounts will be suggested on the platform’s “For You” page. Accordingly, only businesses, institutions of government, and Twitter Blue members will be able to show up in the feeds of users who do not follow them.
The modification is “the only practical way to address sophisticated AI bot swarms that are taking over,” claimed Elon Musk in a tweet. According to Musk, only the verified accounts will be permitted to cast votes in polls “for the same reason.”
The “legacy” verified system will soon be dismantled, according to plans made public by Musk. It’s crucial to keep in mind that Musk’s tweets have traditionally not always led to implemented rules or features, which is why some people have expressed skepticism about this announcement.
For instance, Musk had previously promised that Twitter would start distributing ad income to Blue subscribers in February, but it has now been almost two months and the feature still isn’t live. Additionally, he promised to release the firm’s algorithm as open source by March 5, but Musk now says it will happen on March 31 without mentioning the earlier deadline.
Before ending his policy-making process of soliciting public input on major changes to the service, Musk proposed that only Blue subscribers would be permitted to participate in policy polls. This most recent statement shows a continued focus on giving verified users and Twitter Blue subscribers exclusive privileges, even though Musk no longer solicits community feedback in the same way.
