Since it started pulling lost money out of the garbage in 2017, a single waste management facility in Pennsylvania has amassed $10 million in lost change, according to a business CEO.
Before washing them clean and gleaming, the Reworld waste processing facility in Morrisville employs sifting equipment to painstakingly extract and filter coins from burned trash.
Rebecca Guardino, the director of ash processing, told FOX Business’s Jeff Flock on Monday, “This allows us to better sort the coins, to determine which coins are in acceptable condition or have been damaged, but also reveals which denominations we’re dealing with.”
Guardino gave an explanation of how one person’s trash may turn into another person’s treasure while the employee and the reporter went through a container at the facility.
She informed Flock, “We process roughly 20 million tons of garbage a year.”
According to the company, Americans lose over $68 million worth of change annually.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Reworld began trading currencies in 2017. Reworld gathered approximately $6 million of the $10 million in sufficient condition for a refund.
According to FOX Business, a third party reportedly received the $6 million for counting and depositing into local banks.
