People in Springfield, Ohio, freely talk about how elite-driven migration has messed up their economy, made their neighborhoods less stable, and made society unfairly divide into two groups that support migrants over Americans.
In a tweet, a person named Tyler Oliveira said that federal payments to migrants “make it harder for people like me — or someone else who doesn’t get [government-]assisted living — to find cheap housing at a fair rate.” She also said:
“I really think I’ll be kicked out so they can raise the rate on this place, in all honesty. It’s likely that they’ll fix it, make it look better, and speed it up. They’ll pay $1,200 a month, but I only pay $775 right now… No doubt about it—they do it around here all the time. Since about two years ago, there have been a lot of Haitians living in this neighborhood.”
“There are people I know who have applied for jobs at many of the same places that hire [government-supported] foreigners… But they aren’t getting work,” William Monaghan, a local, told Breitbart News. He also said:
“It’s clear that they want to hire refugees. There is a big company close by that makes computer parts… The people who work on the production line are all Haitian, and there is one translator who works on several lines.”
Because of the influx of migrants, companies don’t have to hire and train Americans, like those who are recovering from drug addiction or who are still mad about the long-term drop in pay. On September 9, PBS showed an interview with Jamie McGregor, who runs a low-tech workshop that makes metal parts. What he said:
“The Haitians who work for us come to work every day. These people don’t use drugs. They are going to stay at their computer. They are going to reach their goals. They’re here to work. In general, that’s very different from what we’re used to in our neighborhood… We want to create more jobs in our area, and some of those jobs need to go to people who are not from here.”
