The biggest COVID relief fund fraud happened in the Somali community, while Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) was in office. Recently, even CNN had to pay attention to this fact.
CNN talked about the huge amount of government money theft that has been going on in the state under Walz. The network said that nonpartisan state inspectors have put out at least 16 reports about how much theft happened in the Gopher State while Walz was governor.
What happened in Minnesota was the most expensive scam involving COVID funds in the whole country. 47 Somali immigrants were charged with stealing around $250 million in government COVID funds.
Walz was in charge of a fake Somali charity named “Feeding Our Future.” This charity stole millions of dollars from the government that was supposed to help families during the COVID crisis. Instead, the Somali community members who managed the funds spent the money on expensive homes, cars, clothes, travel, and other luxuries.
Walz praised himself for trying to clean up the mess and bring the fraudsters to justice, saying that they caught the theft “early.” CNN pointed out, though, that Walz’s own Department of Education made it easy for this kind of theft to happen.
There was a report from the state auditor that the Minnesota Department of Education “failed to act on warning signs” and “made room for fraud.” CNN used this report to show what happened.
Lisa Demuth, the minority leader of the Republicans in the Minnesota House, told CNN that the theft shows that the Walz administration has failed.
Demuth said, “Yes, Gov. Walz is guilty of the fraud that has been going on in the state of Minnesota as long as he is not holding any officials accountable.”
In fact, Gov. Walz has not fired a single person in his office or blamed them for any of the 16 different reports of fraud in Minnesota so far.
CNN said, “Walz has been a hands-off boss when it comes to seeing who is responsible for theft and bad management that happened under his watch.”
