During an occasionally emotional town hall centered on women, former President Donald Trump vowed “readjustments” to make taxes “fair to everybody.”
In a town hall with Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner, Trump fielded a number of inquiries from female attendees. An injured single mother claimed that because she didn’t make less than $700 per month, she was unable to qualify for assistance and that her child tax credit had dropped by 80%. She questioned Trump about what workable adjustments he could make to the tax code to help suffering American families.
“Yes, I gave you the biggest tax cuts in our nation’s history—bigger than the Reagan cuts. Bigger. I completely agree with what you’re saying,” Trump said. “We will fix the situation to make it equitable for all parties because it is currently not. But, we have a lot, and we’re going to increase even further. However, we’ll also need to readjust because you need to make some changes. Some people find it unfair.”
One of the more pointed inquiries about abortion that Trump has received during the campaign came from another guest.
“Pamela is my name. I was born in Danville, California, but currently reside in Cumming, Georgia. In light of this, women have the right and obligation to take care of their bodies, including those of their unborn children, when it comes to abortion,” the woman stated. “Regardless of the situation, that is their responsibility. For some, it’s essential to preserve their own life. Why does the government interfere with women’s fundamental rights?”
Trump’s response was in line with his earlier remarks on the subject, stating that the states ought to handle it.
“This problem has divided our nation for 52 years. All eminent jurists, academics, and practitioners alike, he said, but the Republicans, Democrats, liberals, and conservatives wanted it removed from federal control and returned to state legislatures for popular vote. Like Ronald Reagan, I also think that there should be exceptions made for rape and incest. You know, I really think you should listen to your heart. Not everyone does. Though it’s a very small percentage, you must listen to your intuition. Of course, there are exceptions. But after years and years of strife, we were able to do this thanks to the fortitude of six Supreme Court justices.”
In answer to another query on criminality involving migrants, Trump declared that his administration would abolish sanctuary cities.
The Faulkner Focus will broadcast the entire town hall on Wednesday.
