Imagine taking a college class only to be taught that reality itself is a lie, that men and women don’t actually exist, and that all of human nature is some “social construct.” That’s modern sociology for you—one of those college majors designed to preach that nothing is anyone’s fault. P. J. O’Rourke famously noted that liberals invented majors like sociology just to prove this exact nonsense. And, as it turns out, he’s absolutely right. Sociology has become the science of rewriting reality, all while conveniently ignoring that common sense and basic biology don’t need to be explained by a convoluted theory about “hegemonic masculinity” or “socially constructed gender roles.”

Look at Anthony Giddens, one of sociology’s so-called intellectual titans. His grand contribution? A text stuffed with jargon about how traditional masculinity is toxic and femininity is “repressed.” The man practically idolizes the idea that real masculinity—the type displayed by men like Arnold Schwarzenegger or, heaven forbid, Donald Trump—is a societal disease. Giddens goes on about “hegemonic masculinity,” “complicit masculinity,” and “homosexual masculinity,” as though men themselves are dangerous or defective. His one-dimensional caricatures of men leave out any possibility that strength, honor, or even traditional masculinity might actually be virtues worth preserving. No, he’d rather push the narrative that these are “constructed evils” that society must “correct.”

Of course, Giddens and the leftist academics he represents don’t leave women out of their twisted theories. They’d like to have us believe that any woman who chooses a traditional role—as a mother or a supportive spouse—is a victim of “stressed femininity.” Apparently, if a woman chooses to prioritize family over career, she’s a helpless product of oppression rather than an individual with free will. But Giddens and his ilk ignore one simple truth: women are capable of choosing what they value, and for many, that still includes loyalty, conscience, and courage in men—not some “gender-fluid,” “sensitive” pseudo-man.

In reality, these convoluted academic theories are now everywhere, and they’ve taken root in every corner of society—from politics to Hollywood. Today, the left is on a crusade to villainize traditional masculinity, pushing an agenda that denigrates men while hypocritically trying to force women to adopt the same traits they criticize in men. Look at the laws popping up in places like Spain, where the word of a woman in court is privileged over that of a man, and definitions of assault stretch to cover nearly any interaction. This leftist identity agenda has men on trial for their masculinity and paints women as perpetual victims in need of state protection.

Ironically, when looking back through history, the values that matter haven’t changed. C.S. Lewis, for instance, described a “gentleman” as a man of both “blood and iron,” strong yet gentle. A man is most valuable to society when he is confident in his masculinity, proud to lead, defend, and provide. But the progressive left would rather push a generation of men to apologize for qualities like strength, bravery, and honor. And they’d rather women be taught to reject these qualities than to seek them out in a partner.

The progressive agenda isn’t just failing men; it’s failing women, too. A society full of men too fearful to assert themselves will leave women dissatisfied and isolated, taking on burdens alone that could have been shared with a man. But in an era where liberal academia convinces men to betray their nature, we end up with a generation of boys who are less confident, less reliable, and far less fulfilling as partners. Without true masculinity, nothing meaningful—be it a family, a relationship, or a nation—can be sustained.

Ultimately, no sociology textbook or academic theory can rewrite the truths of human nature. Men and women were designed to complement one another, not to be pitted against each other in some endless war of social justice. The real strength of a nation lies in embracing the differences between men and women, not blurring them into a soulless, identity-free mess. It’s time to reject the left’s “man-woman” ideal and bring back the strength, loyalty, and courage that make men real men.

Sociology’s obsession with dismantling traditional masculinity and femininity is part of the left’s broader agenda to weaken American values. Liberals push bizarre theories to undermine biology and impose a warped idea of gender and identity. True masculinity isn’t just relevant; it’s essential, and rejecting it only weakens society. Men should embrace their natural strength, honor, and courage—and women deserve men who embody these values. America needs a return to real, unapologetic masculinity. Nature doesn’t lie—only the woke elites do.
