President Donald Trump isn’t backing down from protecting American industry, and his latest 25% steel and aluminum tariffs prove it. Economist Jim Geraghty explains that China has been flooding the global steel market with artificially cheap exports, selling at a loss to prop up its failing economy. Now, Trump is forcing them to play fair.
Geraghty notes that every steelmaker outside of China has been complaining about this unfair practice, which has only worsened as China’s housing bubble collapses. Unlike the across-the-board tariffs on Canada and Mexico, Trump’s steel tariffs directly target a real and indisputable problem.
Democrats Fumble Over USAID Scandal
While Trump fights for American workers, Democrats are scrambling to defend the bloated bureaucracy of USAID, which has come under fire for funneling millions to anti-Israel groups. The Washington Free Beacon’s Adam Kredo reports that Biden’s USAID staffers actively fought pro-Israel policies and even pushed to cut military aid to Israel.
The worst part? USAID sent $900,000 to a Gaza-based group linked to Hamas—just six days before the October 7 terrorist attacks. Yet, Democrats like Sen. Chris Van Hollen are vowing to fight for USAID in court, despite the fact that most working-class Americans oppose foreign aid. As Ruy Teixeira at The Free Press points out, this kind of cluelessness is exactly why working-class voters are abandoning the Democratic Party for Trump.
Green Energy Dreams Keep Crashing and Burning
Meanwhile, another massive wind energy project just went bust, and once again, it’s the taxpayers left holding the bag. The Wall Street Journal editorial board calls out New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy for his latest failed wind power boondoggle, which was supposed to be a centerpiece of his green energy agenda.
Murphy’s third failed offshore wind project, Atlantic Shores, was supposed to jack up electricity rates by 11% for residents and up to 15% for businesses, yet even with these generous terms, Shell still backed out because it knew it wouldn’t be profitable. How many more taxpayer-funded failures will it take before Democrats admit their “green revolution” is a disaster?
Trump’s Plan to Abolish the Department of Education Gains Steam
One of Trump’s biggest campaign promises is dismantling the Department of Education, and Reason’s J.D. Tuccille explains why this useless bureaucracy should have never existed in the first place. Created by Jimmy Carter in 1979 as a political favor to teachers’ unions, the agency has spent over $1 trillion while failing to improve education outcomes.
Trump’s plan to shut it down and return control to states, local governments, and parents would decentralize education, eliminate leftist indoctrination, and shrink the size of the federal government. After years of woke policies, plummeting test scores, and parents being shut out of their children’s education, it’s time for a bold reset.
America First is Winning
While Trump cracks down on China, exposes USAID’s corruption, and dismantles bloated government bureaucracies, Democrats are busy defending failed policies and radical ideologies.
The message for 2025 is clear: America First is back, and the Left is losing its grip on power.
