After repeatedly asserting that Republicans want to cut Medicare and Social Security, President Biden’s government declared that it would eliminate Medicare Advantage.
In line with the administration’s proposal from two months ago, the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) stated this week that they would reduce Medicare Advantage by 1.12% in 2024.
According to Bloomberg:
“Additionally, after receiving harsh criticism from the industry, the agency is delaying the implementation of a contentious change that bases payments on the severity of patients’ health issues for three years instead of one.”
“Although the policy may herald a time of slower growth for an industry that has doubled in size in the past decade, fueling growth and profits at major insurers, it nonetheless amounts to a short-term victory for the industry, which had argued that the Biden admin. went too far in its initial proposal.”
As a result of his repeated accusations that Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare as part of a possible compromise to address the approaching debt limit deadline, Biden has suggested these changes to Medicare Advantage.
Republicans have criticized Biden’s obvious duplicity, including Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Steve Daines (R-MT), and Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK), the head of the Republican Study Committee (RSC).
According to Breitbart News, Biden sponsored a measure in 1975 that called for the reauthorization and sunsetting of all government programs, including Social Security and Medicare.
“We must… start evaluating current initiatives to see if they are still worthwhile investments in terms of both effectiveness and cost.” When presenting the 1975 law, Biden said, “We must get rid of the wasteful ones.”
“Regardless of how well a federal program has performed in the past, it is very tough to stop it or even alter its focus once it has begun,” according to then-Sen. Biden. “It is time for us to demand that the administrators of these programs and we law makers who adopt the programs, look at their operations with detail on a regular and ongoing basis.”
