According to Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, the US and Ukraine are “working on a bilateral security deal” that would see US funding for Ukraine increase over the next 10 years.
Zelensky thanked “him and all the lawmakers for their support” of Ukraine and for voting to submit a $61 billion aid package out of a $95 billion foreign aid package to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), according to a statement he released on Sunday.
Zelensky continued, saying he had “stressed the necessity for Patriot systems” in his talk with Jeffries.
He then pleaded repeatedly for Ukraine to receive more Patriot missile systems made in the United States.
According to the Washington Post, Ukraine now has three Patriot systems—two supposedly from Germany and one from the United States.
As part of an additional $6 billion in foreign aid, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin disclosed on Friday that the United States will be providing Ukraine with more Patriot systems.
Additionally, the teams from the US and Ukraine are presently drafting precise wording for a bilateral security pact. Making this arrangement the best of all is our aim. Zelensky stated, “We are talking about the precise underpinnings of our security and collaboration. “We are also focusing on resolving issues related to particular support levels, such as financial, political, and joint arms manufacturing, for the upcoming 10 years as well as this year. The deal has to be genuinely admirable and demonstrate the power of American leadership. I am grateful for the collaborative efforts of our team and the American side in developing the draft of the agreement.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to provide an extra £500 million in aid to Ukraine, on top of the $61 billion in aid that the US just authorized.
