Vice President Kamala Harris did her first interview by herself on television news on Wednesday as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. She didn’t answer any questions, not even when Stephanie Ruhle of MSNBC asked her a friendly question.
People didn’t like that Ruhle said Harris shouldn’t have to answer questions about her policies. So, Ruhle asked Harris hard questions and even checked the facts of some of her talking points.
Harris said, “Donald Trump left us with the worst national economy since the Great Depression.” In reality, the economy was growing when he left office. Ruhle pointed out, “It was during COVID and unemployment was so high because we shut down the nation.” Harris then said that Trump lost 200,000 factory jobs before the pandemic. This is also not true; in fact, manufacturing jobs went up by 450,000.
Ruhle also checked Harris’s claim that Trump’s tax cuts in 2017 only helped the rich and businesses. Ruhle pointed out, “He didn’t just cut taxes for businesses; he cut taxes for everyone.”
The MSNBC host also said that Harris’s plans to increase the child tax credit or help people with their down payments on homes could not happen without Congress’s approval and the support of Republicans.
“How are you going to pay for that if you can’t raise taxes on corporations or if the GOP takes over the Senate? Are you still going to borrow money and carry out your plans?” Ruhle saw that Harris didn’t want to answer at all.
The mild questions that Ruhle asked Harris seemed to throw her off. Ruhle asked Harris, “How do you stop price gouging without putting in place price controls? The vice president had no idea what to do and just ducked. Yes, I will go after them,” she said over and over, referring to companies that take advantage of customers.
