The Biden administration’s pursuit of “energy efficient” and “environmentally friendly” home appliances began with gas stoves, followed by water heaters, and is currently targeting ceiling fans.

The Department of Energy put out new rules for ceiling fans that will save homeowners $39 over the lifetime of each fan but will cost makers $86.6 million a year, according to Fox Business. People can expect to pay $10 more for these new green fans than for regular ones.

The agency says that if fans meet the new standards set by Congress, the cost of running each fan in a home will go down by 40%.

“In addition to providing Americans with more energy-efficient options and saving hardworking taxpayers up to $369 million annually, the proposed standards, which Congress has mandated, wouldn’t go into effect until 2028. This is an important fact that some have conveniently overlooked,” a DOE official stated to Fox News.

But according to a letter from members of the Small Company Association to Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, these green criteria “may put between 10 and 30 percent of small-company ceiling fan makers out of business.”

The letter says, “It looks like the Department of Energy (DOE) may not have given small entities enough thought during this rulemaking process. When making a new rule, it’s essential that agencies look at the needs of small companies, which represent 99.9% of all businesses within the U.S. America’s small businesses have a right to be heard and taken into account.”

The Washington Examiner said that on President Biden’s very first day in office, he passed an executive order that said “major revisions” had to be implemented to “the current appliance regulating standards and standards imposed by the Trump administration.”

“Their philosophy has become energy efficiency at all expenses, or energy efficiency regardless of what the cost,” a former top Energy Department official who served throughout the Trump administration stated to Fox News Digital. “That means that because of their efficiency rules, products are going to cost more. It’s really that easy.”
